Tuesday’s basketball tournament madness report

LINCOLN --- The Bearcats of Ellsworth won their first game of the Amos Morris/George Stephens Classic Basketball Tournament in Lincoln Monday night, defeating Ell-Saline by a score of 64-43. The ‘Cats will meet Phillipsburg at 8:30 p.m. Friday night at Lincoln High School.

The Lady ‘Cats ran into the talented fourth-ranked 2A Lady Cardinals of Ell-Saline Monday and lost their first game of the season by a score of 49-33. The Lady ‘Cats will also take on Phillipsburg in the consolation bracket at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School.

The Lady Oilers dismantled the Lady Cardinals of Plainville 63-38 in a game that was controlled by Central Plains from the opening tip-off. Central Plains will meet the winner of the Russell/Nickerson match at 4 p.m. Friday at Lincoln High School.

The Oilers fought hard against the Cardinals of Plainville, with the halftime score a mere 20-15 in favor of the Cardinals, but the wheels fell off of the bus for Central Plains in the third quarter as third-ranked 2A Plainville pulled away for a 64-39 win. The Oilers will play the vanquished team of the Russell/Nickerson match at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Elementary School.

STOCKTON --- The sixth-ranked 1A Division II Dragons of Wilson put one in the win column Tuesday as they thumped Logan by a score of 62-22 in the Stockton Basketball Tournament in Stockton. The Dragons will play Stockton at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Stockton.

The third-ranked Lady Dragons overwhelmed Logan by a score of 49-25. Wilson will play the Lady Tigers at 6 p.m. in Stockton.
