STOCKTON --- Lady Dragon Karlie Steinle scored 33 points in the 60-36 win over the Lady Tigers of Stockton as Wilson won the Stockton round-robin basketball tournament. Steinle and the strength of the Lady Dragon bench were the keys to the win. Steinle made four of four 3-balls in the win.

The Wilson boys’ game was tight up to the middle of the fourth quarter until Stockton made the mistake of repeatedly putting Jake Stoppel on the charity stripe as he calmly shot 16 of 20 free throws to lead the Dragons to a 75-56 win over the Tigers and the tournament title. Stoppel had an amazing game, scoring 44 points in the contest.

LINCOLN --- The Bearcats of Ellsworth had a 15-point lead over Phillipsburg late in the third quarter, watched it slip to a 7-point lead by the beginning of the fourth before the ‘Cats won 65-46 in the semi-final round of the Amos Morris/ George Stephens Classic Basketball Tournament in Lincoln.

The ‘Cats will meet sixth-ranked 2A Plainville at 7 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln High School.

The Lady Oilers of Central Plains had a battle, but with four girls in double-digits under the boards, defeated the Lady Mustangs of Russell by a score of 51-45 in the semi-finals match of the girls’ tournament.

The Lady O’s will meet Ell-Saline at 5 p.m. Saturday at LHS in the championship match.

Scores were not available for the Lady ‘Cats of Ellsworth or the Central Plains Oilers at post time.
