GYPSUM — The 8-2 Lady Black Bears of Sterling defeated the Lady Oilers of Central Plains Thursday by a score of 49-41 in the Southeast of Saline Girls’ Invitational Basketball tournament in Gypsum.

Although not ranked by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, the Lady Black Bears have a quality basketball team, defending their goal well and making the high percentage shots in the paint.

Three-balls were the key to the win, as the Lady Black Bears used them to gain the advantage early in both the first and third quarters of play, forcing the Lady O’s to battle back from 10 and 12-point deficits in the game.

The Lady O’s easily handled St. Xavier Jan. 23 by a score of 69-11.

Central Plains meets the North Central Activities Association’s Lady Trojans of Southeast of Saline Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Gypsum.
