Trained storm spotters deserve our thanks

POSTED: April 20, 2012 7:00 a.m.

As anyone who was hunkered down in their basement Saturday will probably tell you, we won’t soon forget the day and night when a dozen reported tornadoes crossed the state. That’s as many twisters in one day as Kansas typically has in the entire month of April.
Damage reports came from many parts of the state, including Ellsworth County; however — as incredible as it seems — no one was injured.
That was due in large part to the men and women who risked life and limb to keep the rest of us informed of the storms and their danger.
Trained storm spotters. Law enforcement personnel. Firefighters. Radio and television reporters and metrologists who worked for hours to track wave after wave of bad weather.
We owe all of them a huge thank you for their work Saturday and early Sunday morning. It was a long day.
