Claflin Council addresses ballfields

POSTED: July 26, 2011 4:48 p.m.

Members of the Claflin City Council approved about $8,000 in repairs to city baseball fields at their July 11 meeting. The money will come from the recreation commission budget and city employees will help with the work, using city equipment when needed.
In other business:
• It was reported that summer employees are doing well and that the gray city pickup is starting to have transmission problems.
• Council members voted to contract with Barton County again this year to seal streets. The plan is to seal about 10 blocks, including Fifth, Second, and D Streets.
• By consensus of the council, the pressure control system will be included in the 2012 budget.
• Claflin City Attorney Bob Suelter will craft an ordinance dealing with the parking of semi-tractor-trailers in yards. Discussion of the ordinance will take place at the August council meeting.
• Council members tabled until their August meeting discussion on the old Claflin Grade School buildings, including separation of city and recreation commission responsibilities and the costs associated with transforming the building into a community center and fitness center.
• The annual budget hearing will be conducted at the Aug. 8 council meeting.
