Wednesday’s spring sports roundup

GYPSUM — The Lady ‘Cats dropped both softball games to the Lady Trojans of Southeast of Saline Tuesday, losing the opener 5-4 and the nightcap by a score of 3-1. Ellsworth now has a 12-4 record this season and will host Plainville at 4 p.m. Friday. The Lady ‘Cats will play their arch-rivals, Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. Monday in Ellsworth.

Both the Lady Trojans and Lady Knights are good, quality 3A softball teams as the Lady ‘Cats prepare for the May 14-17 regional softball tournament. Ellsworth is in the 2A Ell-Saline regionals with mighty Ell-Saline, Canton-Galva, Inman and Sterling.

ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth County Baseball also dropped both games Tuesday, losing the opener to Bennington by a score of 8-4 and the nightcap by a score of 14-8. Ellsworth Co. underclassmen Zach Martin, Takota Anderson and Ty Nienke assisted Jacob Froese with the pitching duties. E-Dub is on the road to Minneapolis Friday to play the Lions at 4 p.m. Ellsworth Co. will meet Little River at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 in Ellsworth.

Ellsworth County is now 5-7 with the losses, as they gear up for the May 14-17 3A baseball regionals at Sacred Heart. (Dean Evans Stadium, East Crawford & Markley Rd, Salina.)

The Bearcat Golf team will host its annual Ellsworth Invitational tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ellsworth Golf Course.

The Ellsworth Track teams will compete in the Ellinwood Invitational meet at 4 p.m. Friday in Ellinwood. Times are coming down for the Bearcat runners and the throwers are having a good season in the field events.

RUSSELL — Both Central Plains and Ellsworth will compete in the 1A-2A regional tennis tournament at 10 a.m. Friday in Russell as the short tennis season comes to a close.

TESCOTT — The Wilson Dragons track teams competed in the Tescott Invitational Tuesday. They will meet sister school USD 112 Central Plains at the inaugural Central Plains Invitational meet at 3 p.m. Friday in Claflin.

The Lady O’s track team has been terrorizing meets this season, placing either first or second at almost every meet.
