RUSSELL --- The Russell Broncos’ offensive line owned the gridiron in the first half of the North Central Activities Association league game between Ellsworth and Russell, with the home team heading into the locker room at halftime with a 14-9 lead.

However, the Bearcats battled back in the second half and improved play by both the offensive and defensive lines of the ‘Cats allowed quarterback Takota Anderson to marshal Ellsworth to a 36-14 victory.

The Bearcat margin of victory probably would have been much higher as the ‘Cats had the momentum in the fourth quarter and began scoring almost at will, but an unsupervised child turned off the west floodlights of the field  causing a 15-minute delay of the game.

OTIS --- Otis-Bison beat the Central Plains Oilers 40-14 in a game that was closer than the score indicates. The Oilers didn’t completed three good drives at crucial moments at the game in Otis.

KINSLEY --- The Wilson Dragons battled back from a large deficit in the first half, but the aerial attack of the Kinsley Coyotes was too much for them and the Dragons lost by a score of  70-38 in Kinsley.

HESSTON --- The Bearcat harriers and the one-girl Oilers cross country team competed in the mega 38-team Hesston Swather Invitational meet in Hesston Thursday.

The Lady Dragons enter the third week of volleyball season undefeated and the Lady ‘Cats and Lady Oilers will play in the Ellsworth Invitational Volleyball tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Lady Oilers tennis team continues to own the tennis courts, chalking up two more first place finishes in a frenzy of tennis action. The number one doubles team of Katie Hipp and Janea Hekele are currently undefeated.

Catch up with this week’s prep action in the Sept. 13 edition of the Ellsworth County I-R.
