ELLSWORTH — The Bearcats won their Homecoming battle against Minneapolis by a score of 21-17 in a football game that came down to the final minute of play.

Quarterback Takota Anderson made a couple of good scrambles, defensive end Trevor Miley sacked the quarterback and Jesse Kidd knocked a pass out of a Lions receiver’s hands in the fourth quarter to account for the win. It was an exciting, well-played game of football by both teams.

CLAFLIN — The Oilers were in the game in the third quarter, trailing Pretty Prairie 14-8 but imploded in the final stanza, losing the game by a score of 38-14 in Claflin.

DIGHTON— A young and talented Dighton team sent the Dragons home to Wilson in the third quarter as they won the District football game in Western Kansas by a score of 60-14.

RUSSELL — The Lady Bearcats and the Lady Oilers both have girls alive (but partially frozen) in the 3A-2A-1A Regional Tennis tournament in Russell. A cold front with drizzle shut down play for about an hour during the tournament.

Ellsworth’s singles player Rachel Herzog and the doubles team of Julia Hood and Ashley Sippel won their early matches and will play at 10 a.m. Saturday in Russell.

Breanna Schartz, a singles player from Central Plains also survived the first two matches and will advance in the tournament. The deadly duo of Katie Hipp and Janae Hekele won their bouts and the doubles team of Audrey Kempke and Karli Beck also won their first two matches.
