ELLSWORTH --- The Lady ‘Cats prevailed, 47-45, to defeat a talented and quick Lady Cardinal team in the 3A Hoisington sub-State tournament.

The Lady ‘Cats had home court advantage and the ‘Cat Backers were in full force, as the sixth-man-in-the stands cheered the girls to victory. The lead changed several times during the game.

It was a basketball game worthy of a sub-State tournament and a good win for the Lady ‘Cats (14-7), who will face NCAA rivals Minneapolis (14-7) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the Activity Center in Hoisington.

The Lady Lions are a solid basketball team with a lot of talent who edged the Lady ‘Cats by  two points in February and three points in December. It will be a great basketball game.

CLAFLIN --- The third-ranked 2A Central Plains Oilers roasted the Ellinwood Eagles, 52-44, in the first round of the Kiowa County sub-State tournament Monday in Claflin. As the second seed in the tournament, the Oilers had home court advantage.

Central Plains will meet the Timberwolves of Coldwater-South Central at 6 p.m. Friday, March 7 in Greensburg. The Oilers beat the Timberwolves in post-season football action.

The undefeated and second-ranked Lady Oilers will play arch-rival, St. John-Hudson, 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6 in Greensburg.

Forget all rankings or previous matches when these two teams meet. However, the Lady O’s have beaten the Lady Tigers twice in the regular season.
