2A State basketball tournament update

MANHATTAN --- The Lady Oilers of Central Plains defeated St. Mary’s Colgan 47-38 Wednesday in the 2A State basketball tournament in Manhattan.

Per their modus operandi, the Lady O’s grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Panthers pulled within three points in the third quarter, but Central Plains came out shooting in the final stanza to finish the game.

The Lady O’s will play a good Meade squad at 3 p.m. Friday at Bramlage Coliseum on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan.

The first round win means that the Lady O’s will play in either the championship or consolation game Saturday.

Meade is tall, quick and efficient. The Lady Buffaloes destroyed perennial state contender Olpe 61-49 and the game was never in question.

The best game of the first round was the match up between second seed Jefferson County North and Hillsboro, with the Lady Chargers getting a 53-50 win in the final seconds of the game. It was a great game of basketball.

Mighty Washington County beat the Lady Railroaders 64-44. The Lady Tigers’ press eviscerated Ellis in the second quarter to seal the win.
