Fall sports swings into action

BELLEVILLE — The Lady Bearcat volleyball team split the dual match with NCAA rival Republic County Tuesday, losing the first three games and then coming together as a team and winning the second set.

The Lady ‘Cats will play a triangular against Sterling and Ellinwood at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, beneath the new lights at the Bearcat Lair in Ellsworth.

CHASE — The Lady Dragons also kicked off the sports season in a triangular against Chase and Tescott. Scores were not available at post time.

The Lady Dragons will host a quadrangular at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 in the Dragon Den at Wilson. Chase, Tescott and the Lady Oilers of Central Plains will compete at the meet.


ELLSWORTH — The Lady ‘Cats hosted the 8-team Ellsworth Invitational Tuesday, with Smoky Valley winning the meet with 56 team points. Central Plains finished second with 52 and Ellsworth placed fifth with 32 points.

Breanna Schartz, returning to her number one singles game, placed first for the Lady O’s and freshman Gabby Herzog showed a lot of promise and placed fifth for Ellsworth.

Lady ‘Cat Jessica Graves showed a lot of improvement over the off-season, placing second in the number two singles slot and Central Plains’ Kaylee Girad placed seventh.

The young Lady O’s number one doubles team of Janae Ryan and Keeley Hipp won the number one doubles play and the Ellsworth team of Callie Cunningham and Alyssa Lamb placed fifth.

In number two doubles action, the Lady Oilers’ team of McKenna Hammeke and Kaylynn Oberle placed fourth and the Ellsworth team of Aubrey Hawks and Kelsea Kraus placed seventh.

Both Ellsworth and Central Plains will compete in the big Smoky Valley tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Lindsborg.
