OXFORD — The Dragons fought well, but came up short as the Wildcats won their second win of the season by a score of 28-20.

The Lady Dragons defeated 8-3 Pike Valley in two games and then beat Southern Cloud County in two games at a triangular in Scandia Tuesday night. The Lady Dragons are idle this weekend and will play Chase in their only home game of the season at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Wilson.

GYPSUM — The Bearcats lost to the up-and-coming Trojans of Southeast of Saline 46-14 at the Trojan homecoming. Ben Murrell had a good kicking game and did a nice job carrying the ball for the ‘Cats.

The Lady ‘Cats defeated Republic County in the first match, but the Lady Buffaloes adjusted, winning the second match Tuesday night in Ellsworth. The girls will compete against tough teams at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in Lyons.

CLAFLIN — The Oilers seemed to score every time they touched the pigskin on a perfect fall night in Claflin as they dismembered the Goessel Bluebirds 56-6 in two quarters of play. Benn Kirmer carried the ball four times — scoring on three of the carries — returned a kickoff and ‘intercepted’ a fumble for five touchdowns in the game. Nick Schepmann scored three touchdowns in the win.

The Lady Oilers dispatched the Lady Lions of Lyons three of five games Thursday night in Claflin, tallying 30 kills for the night. They will play Victoria at 3 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 27 in Claflin.

Read about the games and cross country and tennis news in the Sept. 29 edition of the Ellsworth County I-R.
