Repairs stop hammer sound

POSTED: October 28, 2011 7:00 a.m.

The hammering sound at Lorraine’s new water treatment plant has been silenced. That news topped the agenda during the Oct. 11 meeting of the Lorraine City Council.
Larry Klug, city maintenance supervisor, reported a variable speed drive controller and two air release valves were installed atop the water well. The hammering sound was no longer heard after the installation. The controller starts and stops the water pump slowly over a two-minute period.
The installation was done by Petroleum Electric Company of Great Bend. The company's bid of $4,721 was approved by the council during a Sept. 29 special meeting.
