Four units of the Ellsworth Fire Department responded to a semi-truck trailer fire on westbound I-70 at approximately 3:13 p.m. Thursday. The tires on the trailer caught fire and started a small grass fire on the north right-of-way and began to spread into a dry creek-bed in an adjacent pasture, about one mile east of the I-70 and U.S. 156 intersection.
One unit pulled onto I-70 and extinguished the trailer fire, while the balance of the firefighters attacked the grass fire by accessing the pasture.
The quick response by the fire department extinguished both fires by 4:03 p.m.
