U.S. 281 paving begins Tuesday

POSTED: August 30, 2012 7:00 a.m.
On Tuesday, September 4, a job to repave a section of U.S. 281 in Russell County is scheduled to begin. Beginning at the Barton/Russell County line and continuing north to the I-70 interchange, workers will first perform a profile mill of the existing pavement. They will follow the milling process by paving 1.5 inches of new asphalt material to the driving surface. Flaggers and a pilot car operation will guide one-lane traffic through the work zone during daylight hours. Delays of 15 minutes or less will be expected through the construction time frame. The public should plan their travels accordingly. Pay attention to the signs and workers within a construction zone, and “Give ‘Em A Brake!” KDOT awarded the construction contract - totaling approximately $1,322,960 - to Venture Corporation, of Great Bend. This repaving project is funded by T-WORKS, the Transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May of 2010; and designed to create jobs, preserve highway infrastructure, and spur economic development opportunities across the state. Weather permitting, this construction job will be complete by late September. For questions concerning this project, please contact Area Three Construction Engineer Nick Rogers at (785) 625-9718 or nrogers@ksdot.org; or KDOT Northwest Kansas Public Affairs Manager Kristen Brands at (785) 877-3315 or kristenb@ksdot.org in Norton.
