ECMC implements visitor restrictions due to flu

POSTED: January 23, 2013 3:20 p.m.

As Kansas faces one of the worst flu seasons the state has seen in the past several years, taking preventative actions against the virus has become vitally important.

To avoid further spreading the virus, Ellsworth County Medical Center has implemented some precautionary measures.

To protect the hospital’s patients and staff, ECMC temporarily issued visitor restrictions until further notice. The restriction applies to visitors and anyone with flu symptoms. These flu symptoms include, any visitor with a cough, sore throat, chills, runny nose, body aches or a fever of 100 degrees or more.

Visitors not experiencing symptoms are also encouraged to restrict visitation in an effort to minimize exposure. Visitors are encouraged to visit patients by phone or send an e-card through ECMC website at

This is a precautionary measure and is part of the hospital’s continuing efforts to provide a higher level of care and for the safety and well-being of our patients, their families and our staff.

Patients with flu symptoms have been asked to not visit hospital patients. Those who need to visit the hospital for other reasons may be asked to wear a mask.

Contact Shaemarie Farthing, ECMC risk, quality, safety director at (785) 472-5028 ext. 326 with questions.
