Annual chamber meeting is Jan. 27

POSTED: December 30, 2013 7:00 a.m.

Planners of the 66th annual Ellsworth-Kanopolis Area Chamber of Commerce meeting promise an exciting gathering with “something new for everybody.”
The event will be Monday, Jan. 27 at both Pretty Boy Floyds and the Charles Arthur Tavern, at Village Mall in downtown Ellsworth.
A social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. with drinks and “substantial” hors d’ oeuvres, followed at 6 p.m. by the business meeting. Acoustical guitarist Jeremy Hannah of McPherson will perform at 7.
“This year, we were looking to do something different, because so many rural communities are dying away, and we wanted to acknowledge and celebrate the growth of Ellsworth in the past few years,” said Stacie Schmidt, who served on the planning committee with Julia Dufon.
Dufon said there is no speaker planned this year, because of the desire to make the event different from past chamber meetings.
“We want to put some excitement into people,” she said. “They can come and figure out what’s new and why and how much they can give back to us and the community as a business.”
“We also made a change in the agenda, because we are really hoping to attract another audience to come and see what the chamber does for them,” Schmidt said. “I think people truly don’t know what the chamber is doing, and this is an opportunity for us to share that information, so they know where their dues are going.”
The chamber’s 2014 Citizen of the Year, Independent Salt Company of Kanopolis, will be recognized, as will the incoming and outgoing chamber board members. Retiring will be Steve Steinhaus and Keri Anne Ehrlich. New board members are Trisha Janssen of Carrico Implement, Dustin Shanks of First Bank Kansas, and Keri Anne Ehrlich of Good Samaritan Society Home Health.
Tickets for both members and non-members are $25 each. The price includes two drink tickets. Tickets can be purchased at three Ellsworth locations, the chamber office, Citizens State Bank and Trust Co., and at Robson’s Cards and Gifts.
Reservations are due by Jan. 15 with chamber director Carol Kratzer, (785) 472-4071.
