Water leak affects service to portion of Ellsworth

POSTED: January 6, 2014 7:00 a.m.

Ellsworth officials expected to have another water pipe leak near the old Ellsworth County hospital repaired Monday afternoon.

The leak, reported to the city Sunday night, affected water service to residents in the area of Webb and Crestview streets. City administrator Tim Vandall did not have an estimate on the number of homes involved.

Monday afternoon, city employees worked in single digit temperatures to dig down to the leak. Vandall said they hoped the pipe could be fixed with a clamp; however, replacement also was a possibility.

"This is kind of a consistent problem in that area," Vandall said.

After another leak about a month ago, city officials started making plans to replace 200 to 300 feet of line once the weather turns warmer in March or April.
