Cowtown to be flush with drawings

POSTED: July 22, 2014 7:00 a.m.

The world’s largest gift basket? Probably not. But it’s going to be big — and packed with almost $1,000 in gift certificates and merchandise from Ellsworth businesses.
A framed print of one of artist Charles “The Kansan” Rogers’ later paintings donated by the Ellsworth Area Arts Council. More than $300 in Ellsworth-Kanopolis Chamber of Commerce bucks from Citizens State Bank & Trust Co. and Reliant Roofing. And much more. A full list of donors and other details will be included in the July 31 edition of the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter and at participating businesses.
Meanwhile, here’s the story on the basket:
As part of this year’s Cowtown Celebration, the Indy volunteered to organize the festival’s retail component, which the newspaper has dubbed “Passport to Amazing Ellsworth.”
Shoppers can pick up “passports” from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 2. They will then take the “passports” to participating businesses to be stamped or initialed. Finished “passports” will be delivered to the downtown art gallery, where the gift basket will be on display, and entered into the drawing. The gallery will be open until 2 p.m.
The winner will be announced at 1 p.m. Aug. 16, Cowtown Saturday.
“We wanted something that would bring Ellsworth businesses together and showcase the variety of merchandise we offer here,” said Linda Mowery-Denning, Indy publisher.
The basket will be on display at the art gallery starting next week.

Other drawings
The gift basket won’t be the only item subject to drawing during Cowtown.

The Ellsworth County Cancer Fund will give away an custom oak cabinet made by Scott White of Geneseo. Tickets are available at Reliant Roofing, Farm Bureau and First Bank Kansas. Winner will be announced at the Cowtown Days Rodeo.

The Ellsworth County Historical Society will draw for a Rascal Flats autographed guitar Aug. 16 following the ping pong drop at 2nd Street and N. Douglas Avenue.
More than a dozen $100 chamber gift checks also will be given away, along with a $500 Kansas-themed custom fire pit from Maico Industries. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for six, or $10 for 12 at Ellsworth banks, the chamber and Gene’s Heartland Foods.
