Ellsworth City Council approves street dance resolution

POSTED: July 30, 2014 7:00 a.m.

Members of the Ellsworth City Council Wednesday afternoon approved a resolution to allow Aaron Johnson, owner of Padens Place in downtown Ellsworth, to conduct a street dance the Saturday night of Cowtown Days.

Council members met in special session after it was determined the state needed a resolution from the city to block the street during the dance.

Officials earlier granted an exception to city code, which prohibits consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places.

Johnson told council members he plans to stretch snow fence from his restaurant-bar into the street - Douglas Avenue or Kansas Highway 14 - to confine the area in which people will be allowed to drink. Adjoining streets will remain open. He plans to end the event between midnight and 1 a.m.
