Laddie Havlik celebrates 95th birthday

Laddie Havlik of Kanopolis celebrated his 95th birthday Jan. 29, 2012. 
Laddie was born near Bison, Okla. in 1917, the son of Anton and Leopolda Havlik.  At various times in his long life, he worked on ranches in Colorado, helped on construction of Grand Coulee Dam in Washington, and served in both the U.S. Army Engineers and the Army Air Force before and during WW II. Following the war, he worked for Quaker Oats in Iowa, operated a mechanic’s shop in Marion, Kan.,  and worked for Boeing, Cessna Lockheed Aircraft companies and Hesston Corporation.  He owned and operated Tampa Lumber and Hardware at Tampa, Kan., then moved to Kanopolis in 1975 where he was employed by Hi-Plains Sand and ended his working career with the City of Kanopolis in 1997.
Laddie married Luetta Steel in Wichita in April 1953. They have four children, Jim Havlik (Linda) of Alabama, Carol Havlik (Gary Boyd) of Wyoming, and Anne Deming (Verl) and Jane Coyne (Dave), both of Ellsworth. There are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
