HAYS --- Ty Nienke, the Bearcat 106 pound grappler placed third in an exciting consolation match win, scoring the point needed in the final seconds of the last period of competition. Tristan Ptacek was one match out of vying for fifth or sixth place.

LINCOLN --- The Mustangs of Sylvan Unified claimed the Northern Plains 15-team league championship, defeating Wilson by a score of 42-40 in a game that see-sawed between the two teams, giving the Dragons a second place finish. The 3-ball shooting of Sylvan was the key to the win.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Leopards of Lincoln defeated the Lady Dragons by a score of 36-32 to claim the title. The Wilson girls battled hard, but a Lincoln 5-point run early in the first 30 seconds of the third quarter made the difference. Lincoln made a lot outside shots in the game to secure the win.

HOISINGTON --- The Bearcats of Ellsworth placed fourth in the Cardinal winter jam, after Clint Glaser’s 3-ball attempt in the final second of the game bounced off of the rim, giving the Knights a third place finish.

The Lady ‘Cats made a good showing against the Lady Lions of Minneapolis in their game but lost by a score of  51-44.
