CLAFLIN --- The Oilers upset undefeated Solomon 56-52 in Claflin.

Layne Beiberle made some great catches in the win.

ELLSWORTH --- Sacred Heart manhandled the Bearcats, stunning Ellsworth 49-8 at Shanelec Field.

Dropped passes, interceptions and penalties dogged the ‘Cats in the loss.

OTIS --- The Cougars of Otis-Bison ended the football game at halftime in Otis with a 60-14 win over the Dragons.

Otis-Bison scored on the opening kickoff and from its first offensive possession of the game.


In volleyball, the second-seeded 3A Lady ‘Cats of Ellsworth (23-10) will take on will take on Beloit (8-21) in a 2p.m. match at the Southeast of Saline sub-state tournament in Gypsum. The victor will play the winner of the Riley County and Sacred Heart match.

The 2A Lady Oilers of Central Plains (22-13) are also seeded second in the sub-state tournament in Lincoln. They will meet Solomon (7-23) in the third match of the day. Top-seeded and top ranked Ell-Saline (30-5) plays Canton Galva (5-26) at 1 p.m.

The Wilson Lady Dragons (28-5) have the top seed and will host the 1A Division II sub-state tournament in Wilson. They have a bye in the first round. Second-seeded St. John’s of Beloit/Tipton also has a bye in the first round. The odds are extremely good that the two teams will meet in the championship match.
