Lady Dragons place fourth; Steinle breaks tournament records

HAYS — A fast and well-conditioned Rexford-Golden Plains girls’ basketball team defeated the Lady Dragons of Wilson, 77-67, Saturday at the 1A Division II State Basketball tournament in Hays.

 

The Lady Dragons placed fourth in state and the Lady Bulldogs claimed the third-place trophy.

 

Lady Dragon senior Karlie Steinle scored an amazing 42 points, 18 rebounds and was just three steals away from scoring a triple-double in the game.

 

Steinle broke two long-standing tournament records, shooting 35 free throws eclipsing Claflin’s Jackie Stiles’ 28 charity shots and also set the record for free throws in a sing game — shooting 19 of 22 for the day — an amazing 86 percent from the line.
