ST JOHN --- In a game worthy of a State championship, the second-ranked Oilers fell to mighty top-ranked 2A Tigers of St. John 50-42 in an action-packed, fast-paced physical game of basketball in the St. John Lions Club Winter Classic in St. John.

HOISINGTON --- The Lady ‘Cats placed fifth at the Hoisington Winter Jam with a 51-34 decimation of  a good 1A -ranked Victoria team.

The Bearcats put one in the win column, getting a 67-49 victory over Russell in the seventh-place game. The Bearcats continue to improve with each outing.

LINCOLN --- The Lady Dragons placed fourth in the NPL tournament in Lincoln, suffering their second defeat at the hands of St. John’s of Beloit-Tipton in a 48-40 battle. It was a good game of basketball.

Score for the Wilson Dragons’ boys game was not available at press time.

HAYS --- Ty Nienke won the 113-poiund bracket and Zach Martin wrestled hard to get the third place medal in the 139-pound bracket Saturday at the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic tournament in Hays.

It was a tough tournament for the Ellsworth Bearcats Friday and Saturday in Hays, as two of its state ranked grapplers failed to medal.

Zack Gustus was just a match out of making the medal rounds at the 220-slot.
