MANHATTAN --- The Central Plains Lady Oilers are the 2A 2014
State basketball champions, defeating an equally good Jefferson County North basketball team, 47-45, Saturday in Manhattan.

The Lady O’s had a perfect 26-0 season of basketball and won the first State title for Central Plains High School.

Senior starter Breanna Holmes, the team’s tough defensive player suffered a knee injury in the first two minutes of the contest, a heartbreaking loss.

However, the Lady Oilers bench stepped up to the breach, while Reagan Phelan, Taylor Rolfs, Kendi Maxwell and Jenae Ryan played a smart and stunning brand of basketball, securing the win in the final seconds.

It was a great game of basketball -- on both sides of the ball -- right up to the final buzzer.

Read about the win in the March 20 edition of the I-R.

Editor’s note: Congratulations to the Lady Oilers, coaches and Oiler Backers on a great season and a State title.
