Water wasn’t on the Holyrood city council’s agenda Monday night, but it quickly became a hot topic of discussion.
"We need to ask residents to start watching their water usage," said utilities supervisor Roy Folk. "I know it’s hot and things are burning up, but people need to think about watering at night instead of the heat of the day."
Visibly concerned, mayor Ken Schepmann asked Folk if the city’s wells were keeping up with the demand.
"I know that this July will be a record-breaking month," Folk said. "The wells are keeping up, but they are filling the water tower three times a day." Folk estimated that the city would consume over 5,000,000 gallons of water in July.
