Fillion optimistic brick plant will reopen

POSTED: March 23, 2012 7:00 a.m.

Will the Acme Brick plant reopen after being monthballed for several years?
That was the question Kanopolis City Council member Gerry Gebhardt asked Rob Fillion March 13. Fillion, executive director of Smoky Hill Development Corporation, delivered the answer Gebhardt wanted to hear — almost.
While he couldn’t give a date, Fillion said, “I am fairly positive you will see the brick plant reopen sooner rather than later.”
Acme Brick closed as a result of the national slowdown in housing construction. Fillion said several things point to the Kanopolis plant reopening, including continued activity and the company’s donation of bricks to the new child care center in Ellsworth.
“I feel very confident we’ll see them up and running at some point,” he said.
