City water rates to increase

POSTED: September 23, 2011 7:00 a.m.

Water rates are increasing in Kanopolis. At the Sept. 13 meeting, members of the Kanopolis City Council approved an ordinance raising water rates for the first 2,000 gallons used to $17.95 per month. The rate was $14.95 per month.
The rate of $3.98 per 1,000 gallons for water used in excess of 2,000 gallons remains unchanged.
According to Yvonne “Bonnie” Stoppel, city clerk, the raise in the rate was necessary to put more revenue into the city water fund, because of the increasing cost of supplying water, the costs associated with cleaning up contamination of water well number one, and the future cost of painting the city water tower.

Pick up a copy of the Sept. 11, 2011, edition of the Ellsworth County I-R for more on the Kanopolis City Council meeting.
