Lorraine mill levy drops

POSTED: August 26, 2011 7:00 a.m.

At the Aug. 16 meeting of the Lorraine City Council, the 2012 budget was approved as presented.

At 92.637 mills, Michael Boyer, city clerk, said the mill levy went down for 2012, compared to 104.320 mills in 2011. However, total budget expenditures for 2012 are estimated to rise to $189,996 from $135,508 in 2011. He said the reason for the rise is because city water rates were increased, which allows the council more money to pay off the $100,000 bond for the new city water treatment plant out of the water fund, instead of raising taxes.
