Marquette businessman will be missed

Marquette residents experienced quite a jolt Friday morning, May 3, when word of the unexpected death of former Marquette businessman/owner of Piper’s Fine Foods, Charles “Charlie” Piper, traveled around town. Charles was found deceased at his home by his eldest son, Steve, after his family noticed Charles’ mini-van was still parked in front of his home Friday morning. Charles was usually up and around early every morning touring the city of Marquette and the countryside, before going to help at Piper’s Fine Foods.

Another new business has opened in downtown Marquette. Becky Witte, rural Marquette, has opened her new store, “The Little Red Shed”, in the former Blue Sky Cable building, once housing Olson’s Furniture Store, on the west side of Washington (Main) Street.
