Wilson City election draws light participation

POSTED: April 3, 2012 7:00 a.m.

Incumbents Cindy Heinze and Leland Francis were the top vote getters Tuesday night for the Wilson City Council. Heinze, council president, received 96 votes. Francis had 79.

Newcomer Linda Bushnell picked up the third open spot on the council with 68 votes.

A fourth candidate, Jason Shelton, received 50 votes. Incumbent Joe Soukup did not seek re-election.

Election official Ona Crawford said turnout "was not good" for the city election. Wilson has a total of 557 active and inactive voters.

Ellsworth County election officer Jan. Andrews said there was one provisional ballot, which will be counted, and four write-ins.

Commissioners will review the election results at 8 a.m. Friday at the courthouse.
