Wilson's summer meal program a success

POSTED: August 12, 2011 11:59 p.m.

Smiles were quite apparent July 28, as one by one, children went through the lunch line at the Wilson Methodist Education Building to pick up their tray of food as part of the Wilson Summer Food Service Program.
The program was started last year in Wilson to provide a lunch for children in the community during the summer.
This year, however, there has been an addition to the Wilson program, thanks to a two-year grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide shelf stable backpack lunches.
“We are one in seven communities in the state of Kansas chosen to get the grant,” said Lynn Kasper, site supervisor for the Wilson Summer Food Service Program.
