City accepts oversight of Czech Festival

POSTED: September 23, 2011 7:00 a.m.

Establishment of a Czech Festival committee with Kayla Cullens as chairman topped the agenda at Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council.
With the approval of the Wilson Chamber of Commerce, the committee was born out of a request by a group of local residents to research how other local communities, such as Ellsworth, Kanopolis and Lucas, handle their festivals.
“It would be a city committee, as opposed to being a function of the chamber of commerce,” said Mayor David Criswell.
“We will have members of the chamber involved on this committee,” said Cullens. “Basically, it would do the same thing the chamber does. It would be under a committee and report to the city. We’ll still go out and solicit sponsorships and contributions. The city will not pay for anything to do with the Czech Fest except for their contribution, which they have done every year.”
