POSTED: August 10, 2012 7:00 a.m.

Harvey R. Pflughoeft of Loveland, Colo., passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 8, 2012.
Harvey was born Feb. 21, 1920 in Ellsworth, to Reinhold A. Pflughoeft and Emma (Schulz) Pflughoeft. After finishing school he worked on numerous farms in the area, then in 1937 went to Idaho to help his Aunt and Uncle; August and Ida Lange for a few years.
Harvey then moved to Los Angles, Calif. where he attended college and was recruited by Lockheed Aircraft Co.  As a representative for Lockheed, during the early part of World War II, Harvey traveled to England and Iceland to train mechanics on the P-38 Lightning aircraft. He then entered the Army Air Corp. in August 1944 and served in the states until his discharge in 1946.
Harvey moved to Loveland in 1946, worked for Graece & Sons Implements, and married Betty A. Nienke, also of Ellsworth, in February of 1948. In 1952 Harvey moved his family to Brush Colo., where he co-owned an implement dealership. The family then moved to South Central Idaho, where they homesteaded 100 acres from 1956-63, at which time the family returned to Loveland. Harvey worked in car sales for local dealerships for many years and in security at H-P.
They were active for many years in Immanuel Lutheran Church until they entered North Shore Health and Rehabilitation.
Harvey enjoyed many family gatherings at the house, which was also the expected stop for friends or family passing through. The Fourth of July picnics in the backyard will always be remembered. He and Betty made numerous trips on their motorcycle joined by his cousin; Lloyd and wife Erna Haase of Ellsworth, and other friends, covering some 5,000 miles on one excursion.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; a brother, Lester, of Ellsworth; Lorenda Stevens of Twinfalls Idaho; daughters Carol Doman (Richard) of Ft. Morgan. Colo. and Sonja Townend (Ron) of Johnstown, Colo. and son Dean Pflughoeft (Nancy) of Loveland; grandchildren Dawn Pflughoeft, Andrea Murr (Ryan), and Kimberly Petersen (Blake). Great-grandchildren are Christina and Levi Homer, Nick, Lacey, and Eric Pflughoeft, Shelby and Lane Petersen, and Kaden and Kindall Murr.
Harvey was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin; a sister, Valeria (Schmoekel); daughter Donna, and grandson Scott Pflughoeft.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colo.
Interment will be later this month at Ft. Logan Memorial Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado, 305 Carpenter Rd, Fort Collins, Colo. 80525.
