Margaret E. Long

Margaret E. Long, 68, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 in Ellsworth.  She was born March 29, 1944 in Hays to Glenn and Barbara (Renner) Nelson. 
She grew up south of Rush Center, graduating from La Crosse High School in 1961 and the Fort Hays State University School of Nursing in 1965. 
She married Donald Long at Rush Center May 15, 1966. They lived in Ellsworth where Margaret worked as a surgical nurse at the Ellsworth hospital for five years, then at Good Samaritan Retirement Center for 38 years, beforeher retirement in 2008. She was a member of the  United Methodist Church, Ada O’Donnell Fellowship, Alumni Nurses Association, Willing Workers and Smoky Hill Cattlewomen, all of Ellsworth, a KSU Ahearn Fund member and member of the FHSU Nursing Class of 1965.
She is survived by her husband Donald; son Steve of Belleville; daughters Sandy Lendecker and husband Jim of Salina, Lisa Long (David Markley) of Alma, and Laura Miller of McPherson; brothers Delbert Nelson and wife Andrea of Great Bend, and Claude Nelson and wife Kathy of Otis; sisters Opal Roberts and husband Marvin of Shields and Fern Nelson of Everett, WA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the United Methodist Church, Ellsworth, with burial following in the Ellsworth Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
