Glen E. Rolfs

Glen E. Rolfs, 87, Geneseo, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1925, at Ellsworth to William and Flora Buehler Rolfs. The youngest of five children, he was baptized in the Frederick Baptist Church, where he attended until his marriage, when he became a member of the Geneseo Methodist Church. He attended county grade schools and also Geneseo Elementary School. He was a 1943 graduate of Geneseo High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 106th Infantry at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He received a citation for meritorious performance of duty and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He married Arlene Lebsack June 1, 1947, in Otis, and they settled in Geneseo, where Glen farmed until his retirement in 1991. He was an avid fisherman. He also was especially active in sports — playing town team basketball after his Army service. He also refereed high school and small college basketball and football games for many years and played golf until a bout with pneumonia in early 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald, Delbert and Ned; and a sister, Virginia.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenda Davis, Albuquerque, N.M.; sons Reed (Valorie), Scott  City, and Bradley (Royalyn) of Stilwell; grandchildren, Reuben Davis, Margaret Davis and Libby McCommons, all of Albuquerque, Alex Davis, Corvallis, Ore., William Rolfs, Hays, and Corinne Rolfs, Stilwell; a great-grandson, Davis William McCommons; and many nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in Geneseo Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Geneseo Golf Club, in care of the funeral home.
