Paul D. Arnett

Paul D. Arnett, 62, of Pomona, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kan.
Mr. Arnett was born Sept. 19, 1950 in Lawrence, Kan., the son of Philip and Cleota (Bair) Arnett.
He graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1968, and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-75, attaining the rank of Specialist 5. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in wildlife management in 1977. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1977-94, attaining the rank of project manager. From 1983 to 1997, he lived in Wilson, Kan., returning to Pomona in 1998.
He owned and operated a lumber yard in Wilson for one year, and worked as a carpenter in Lawrence for First Management Company. He was a volunteer firefighter for Pomona and Wilson for 30 years, and he was also on the Pomona and Wilson City Councils. He was also a hunter education instructor in Pomona for 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking in his spare time.
He was united in marriage with Mary Flakus Aug. 29, 1970 in Pomona.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Eudora; three daughters, Katina Larsen and her husband, Keith, and April Smith and her husband, Donald, both of Pomona, and Rebecca McCue and her husband, John, of Hutchinson; a sister, Linda Robbins and her husband, Leonard, of Pomona; a sister-in-law, Betty Arnett of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Mira McCue, Brandon Larsen, Dalton Smith and Dakota Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Philip and Cleota Arnett, and a brother, Kenneth Arnett.
Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Arnett at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, after 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. 
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the mortuary.
Inurnment will take place at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Paul D. Arnett Memorial Fund in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kan. 66067.  Funds collected will go towards a wildlife management program.
