Franklin Dean Gustus

Franklin Dean Gustus, 80, Geneseo, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River.

Mr. Gustus was born July 17, 1933, at Geneseo to Cyril and Olive Roby Gustus. He was a lifetime Geneseo resident, where he attended the Geneseo school system and served as fire chief for 34 years, as mayor and as a member of the Geneseo City Council, the Geneseo Golf Club and the Lions Club. He also was a member of the Ricedco Board.
He was married March 20, 1954, at Lyons to Leah Jane Kindle. She preceded in him death March 15, 2011.
Mr. Gustus also was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Gustus; two brothers, Cliff and Don Gustus; and an infant sister, Joyce.
Survivors include: two daughters, Patricia “Patty” Beagley and Carolyn Kratzer and her husband, Mike, of Geneseo; seven grandchildren, Curtis Beagley, Brooke Beagley, Ashlea Beagley, Dean Beagley, Jennifer Deneault, Callie Gustus and Haddie Gustus; six great-grandchildren, Colby Beagley, Sadie Beagley, Kameryn Gustus, Stephen Gustus, Zoee Gustus and Rebecca Deneault; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Gretencord, Laura Kratzer and Alyza Gretencord; and a brother, Dale Gustus of Geneseo.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be in Geneseo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may go to the Geneseo American Legion, the Geneseo United Methodist Church or Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, in care of the funeral home.
