Ronald E. "Step" Stepanek

Ronald E. “Step” Stepanek, 84, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014. He was born June 9, 1929, in Ellsworth, the son of Edward Stepanek and Fannie Birka Stepanek.
Ron graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1948 and from Kansas State University in 1951 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He then entered the Army, serving until June 28, 1953. Ron enjoyed drag racing in his younger years. He was also an avid K-State sports fan.
He began work with Kansas Power and Light Company, now Westar Energy, in 1953, working in Salina, Abilene and Topeka, retiring as supervisor of the plant and property department in February of 1988.
After a 27-year courtship, he was married to Sharon Larson March 25, 2011. She survives. Other survivors include four nieces, Phyllis Bachelor (Russ), Millicent Triplett (Larry), Barbara Packer, and Marilyn Kipp (Steve); two nephews, David Knorr (Judy), and Ed Knorr (Willene); 17 great-nieces and nephews; four step-children; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Topeka.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
