George B. Campbell Jr.

George B. Campbell Jr., 89, Lyons, passed away Sunday, May 4, at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born Dec. 18, 1924 in Marquette to George Marion and Georgia Margaret (Hoffman) Campbell.
A longtime resident of Lyons, Mr. Campbell was a retired machinist for Lyons Manufacturing. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Lyons, the Lyons VFW, the Lyons American Legion, and an honorary member of the Liars Fishing Club in Lyons.
He married Viola A. Barkow June 15, 1947, in Ellsworth. She passed away April 10, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Jack, Charles, Kenneth, Donald and Marvin Campbell; and infant sister, Ima Jean Campbell.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharen and Antonio Garcia, Lyons; two sons, Doug and Judy Campbell, Nevada, Mo. and Donnie and Janice Campbell, Overland Park; a brother, Wayne Campbell, Great Bend; six sisters, Phyllis Cassingham and Betty Birka, both of Little River; Velma Mae Harts, Hutchinson; Bernice Keehner, Salina; Margaret Morgart, Sterling; and Joyce Enlow, Lyons; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Lyons, with Pastor Jeffrey Frakes officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fort Riley honor guard and the Sterling American Legion.
