![]() Alice Peterka at her desk at Wilson High School. Long-time Wilson teacher decides to retire By Alan Rusch Last Updated: March 02, 2010 After 44 years of teaching (40 of those at Wilson High School), Alice Peterka has decided to retire at the end of this school year. “It doesn't even seem like 44 years," she said. “I said I was going to teach 40 years then retire. Then each year, I'd say one more, one more." Peterka, who lives south of Wilson with her husband, Don, said the total knee replacement she had this past June, along with the recent icy weather, made her decision for her. “On one of those icy days, I typed up my letter," she said. “I just don't like to be on ice." For more on Alice Peterka and her career, read the March 4 edition of the Ellsworth County I-R.
