'Mother' Bickerdyke
Mary Ann “Mother" Bickerdyke, a Civil War nurse with connections to Ellsworth, is one of 24 finalists in the 8 Wonders of Kansas People, a project of the Inman-based Kansas Sampler Foundation.

WILSON – The Cinderella team of the 1A state girls' basketball tournament, the Lady Dragons of Wilson, will play 23-1 Montezuma-South Gray at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 at Busch-Gross Coliseum,Fort Hays State University Highway 183 Bypass, Hays. The Lady Rebels are ranked number one in the state in 1A and 25th overall by MaxPreps.

The Lady Dragons enter the tournament with a 17-8 record and are currently ranked 19th in 1A play and 151st overall in the state by MaxPreps. The Victor will play the winner of the St. John-Hudson (24-1) versus Frankfurt (game 23-2) game at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at the same site.

In a side note, Twin Lakes League rivals, the Lady Leopards of Lincoln (18-7) are also in the state tournament and will play (25-0) Argonia at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 at the same site.
