Valentines Day and Phone Sex DEBBIE MAI Thursday February 18, 2010
Well folks, Valentines Day has passed and I had the most enjoyable one ever. Of course it was great that I got to spend the evening before V-Day with my husband sans children and with a great group of friends. We all checked into the Simple Haven Bed and Breakfast in Wilson for the evening before heading to the Bunker Hill Cafe for a great dinner of Buffalo, Steak, Shrimp and interesting conversation. Did you know that sitting on your butter will make it melt faster? Well, then did you know that the word patina can melt some women's hearts? I also found out that one of my friends is a little timid about haunted places, another friend had to accompany her to the bathroom. All because I mentioned that as a child I always thought the bathroom at the Bunker Hill Cafe was haunted. After eating we loaded up in our vehicles and headed the the winery in Russell. Yes, Russell has a winery, it has a name, but good luck googling it, I think it is the Double S Vineyard, but don't quote me on that. The atmospere was wonderful and we learned more fascinating details about one another. Of course, I have been sworn to secrecy on sharing details, however, I can say that glass dishes DO indeed transfer heat. So after tasting ten different wines and learning that some of our friends are truly "special" we headed back to the B and B in Wilson. This is where I found out how truly blonde I am. Upon entering the dining room where we were setting up snacks I saw someone had brought some "gourmet" popcorn. Now, I have seen caramal popcorn and kettle corn and all different varieties, however, I had never had Mantaquilla popcorn before. I was trying to figure out what it could possibly be flavored with when I finally decided to turn the box over. Guess What!?! Mantiquilla is spanish for Butter. Gourmet my hiney, I am just blonde. So after snacking we all went upstairs to chat and then turn in. It is a good thing that I did not know how wonderful the breakfast was going to be or I would have been dreaming of it all night. The next morning the Curtiss' treated us to the most delicious breakfast of apple french toast, home made cinnamon rolls, two different breakfast casseroles, chocolate dipped strawberries and mimosas. I would highly recommend sending any traveling friends there versus a hotel anyday. Four out of the five rooms have there own private baths so privacy is not an issue but, make sure the man of your dreams is on time or you will get hosed and end up with the room without a bath. I truly enjoyed the entire evening, so a thank you to all my great friends and my wonderful husband. Okay, now, about the phone sex. I am not good at answering texts quickly and one morning recently I woke up and went downstairs to see if a friend had replied to one I had sent her. I opened my phone and saw "5 text messages". I thought, oh crud, I wonder who has been trying to get a hold of me. Well, it was a girl named Nikki from out of this area code wanting to explain why she wasn't comfortable having phone sex, but she was apparently looking for a good time and by the fifth message she said, "sorry, wrong person". First, if you are going to be talking about something like that, wouldn't you think you should have that persons name in your contact information. Second, how bad do you think she felt when the party she was trying to hook up with didn't respond? I have a feeling she was thinking, "oh man, I guess he really isn't that into me". Third, I wonder if she has told her friends or if she is saving it for a V-Day when they dish the dirt about all the not-so-bright moments of their lives.
Fears DEBBIE MAI Monday February 01, 2010
For all of you who may not know, I have a brother who lives in Japan. Yep, the Japan that is on the other side of this big, beautiful planet. You also may not know that I absolutely HATE flying. Yep, I hate flying, there, I said it, I do not like to fly. How many times have I flown you may ask, well, let me just tell you, six times. Once in a small plane with a friend who had won the opportunity to fly over Wilson Lake as an after prom prize and five different planes on my trip to Japan about four years ago. I count each one of those terrifying jaunts as one trip of flying. I do have to admit, from Tokyo to Seatle was the best flight. The others, well, lets just say, God was either sending me a message that I should never fly again or Hey! you survived these, you can get over your fear of flying now. HMMMMMM, I have until July to decide which message was meant for me. Yes, I am planning on flying again in July. Why? Because I love my little brother! My mom, my kids and my husband will be traveling with me this time. Yeah! A 13 hour flight with a five, seven and ten year old, sounds exciting, right? Heck Yeah! Back to my fear of flying, it is not my only fear, I also fear spiders. I do not fear them enough to not kill them, but I scream like a little girl every time I see one. After Jeff and I first got married he realized that if he wasn't going to keep the spiders away he had better get used to shrieking screams of terror that could wake the dead or give him heart palpitations. My other fears include bad things happening to my children and lima beans. No, I am really not afraid of lima beans, I just am afraid someone may put them in my food, UCK! I would also like to mention that I have met two people who have interesting phobias, I do not know if they have names, the phobias, not the people, but they are not listed on the phobia websites. Okay, so here goes one, a man that my husband is friends with is afraid of jewelry. Yes, I said jewelry. His wife and daughters can not wear jewelry. It made him physically ill to put on his wedding ring for the first time, as strange as it may seem, I have actually seen him freak out when approached with a piece of jewelry. I may be a tad bit evil because knowing that this 300 lbs. man is afraid of jewelry kind of makes me giggle. I try not to torture him too much, but I cannot help but show him new pieces I get, just to see his reaction. The other strange phobia could be similiar to claustraphobia, I have a lady who can not tolerate having her whole finger nail painted. She feels constricted and uncomfortable if more than her tips are done. She mentioned it makes her feel like she can't breathe. I tell her I love her anyways, even if she is a freak, and I promise to only paint her tips. I think it is normal to be afraid of some things in life, I also know that letting that fear consume you is not normal. Thus the reason I bucked up and got on those planes. Willingly, but not excitedly. Thus the reason that if you are eight-legged and creeping around my house you will be murdered with the nearest object that can squish your nasty little body. I will show no mercy to unwanted intruders of the arachnid variety, so there is your fair warning. And did you know that no matter where you are you are only six feet away from the nearest spider? Yeah, I thought you needed to know that. You are welcomed.
