The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team welcomed the Southeast of Saline Trojans to the Bearcat gymnasium Jan. 30, with the game having big implications for the league crown. Ellsworth and Southeast both came into the contest as two of the hottest teams in Class 3A, with the Bearcats on a four-game winning streak, while the Trojans crept back into the state rankings at No. 8, winning their last seven games.

The team once again had a good turnout, with nine wrestlers placing in the top six of their weight class, including three wrestlers claiming the top spot in their bracket.

The Bearcats claimed 10th place in team standings that featured 21 teams, most of which were 4A, 5A and 6A schools. Ellsworth scored 63.5 team points, just 6 points behind ninth-place finisher Pratt. The girls placed three wrestlers in the top five in their respective divisions, with junior Brooklyn Webb leading the way and placing second in the 130-lb. division.
