Bill Herrington, 81 of Wichita, Kan., left this earth to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. He was born and raised in Kanopolis, Kan.
Bill’s most treasured things were family. In 1960, Bill met his perfect companion, Sharon Harper. They married a year later at the First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage together.
Bill spent his career in the banking and insurance field. His first job was janitor at Kanopolis State Bank. While there, he served his customers as teller, loan officer, vice-president, president and owner. Bill also managed an insurance agency ensuring his customers were always taken care of to the best of his ability. His financial advice for others was always the same-keep a bit for yourself and give the rest away.
Bill’s knack for story-telling and engaging others in good conversation always put others at ease. Upon retirement, Bill and Sharon moved to Wichita to be closer to their kids and grandkids. They rarely missed an event when it came to family and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each grandchild’s interests, friends and teammates.
Bill’s penchant for getting others to laugh was an integral part of every visit with him. Bill and Sharon also remained connected to Bill’s siblings and their families by driving to wherever “family” might be. Both Bill and Sharon felt blessed to have found good friends through Central Community Church. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, LaFranier and Helen; and daughter, Amy.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Wichita; son, Ty (Lori) of Wichita; daughter, Tiffany (Ben) Ray of Derby; grandchildren; Hannah (Ben) Biederer of Tomball, Texas, Abbey of Wichita, Hayley (Daniel) Gough of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Josiah (Ivy) Ray of Clearwater, Elizabeth (Aren) Coppoc of Wichita, Isaac Ray of Derby; great-granddaughter Rori Gough.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Central Community Church Chapel, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hope Is Alive or HopeNet.
