Jean ‘Jeanie’ Converse (1935-2019)

Jean ‘Jeanie’ Converse, age 83, of Lincoln, Kan., left this earthly life on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kan. She was born Nov. 9, 1935 at Fort Lupkin, Colo. to Dwight and Beulah (Shutts) Arnold.
She was a 1953 graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kan. Jeanie graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  
She taught at USD 298 Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Kan. for 22 years and then at USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis Elementary School for 16 years. In 1971 she received outstanding young teacher of the year award. Jeanie started the girl’s athletic program in 1971 at Lincoln High School. She was the girls track coach at Lincoln High School where they won three straight state track titles in 1972, 1973 and 1974. Jeanie was named Kansas State activities coach of the year in 1976.
Jeanie loved to play golf and made 3 holes in one during her lifetime. She was member of several golf courses including Salina Municipal GC, also a member of the Lincoln Arts Center.
She was a nanny to  Sawyer, Levi, Connor, and Landon.
Jeanie is survived by her best friend, Vicky Jewell, Lincoln, Kan.; a brother, Doug Arnold, Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Beulah.
It was Jeanie’s wishes to be cremated and private disposition of the cremains will be at a later date.
 The family suggests memorials to USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis Art Department or the Humane Society, Lincoln, Kan. in care of Chaput-Buoy funeral home, PO Box 606, Concordia, Kan. 66901.
