Melvin Dennis Sharp (1944-2019)

Melvin Dennis Sharp, 74, of Holton, Kan., passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kan. He was born Dec. 12, 1944 in Loveland, Colo., the son of Dennis Lowell and Ione Christine (Sanders) Sharp.
Melvin graduated in 1962 from Kanopolis High School in Kanopolis, Kan. After he graduated, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966.
On Jan. 31, 1971 in Ellsworth, Kan., Melvin was united in marriage to Sherry Lynn Morgan. They shared over 48 years of marriage.
Melvin spent the majority of his working life employed for the Kansas Turnpike Authority as a Toll Collector. When Melvin wasn’t working, he could usually be found fishing and of course he always had a joke to tell that would always put a smile on everybody faces.
Survivors included his wife, Sherry of the home; two sons, Brian Kelly Sharp (Felisa) of Topeka, Kan. and James Dennis Sharp (Kyndra) of Hiawatha, Kan.; one sister Margie Sharp of Ellsworth, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Sharp.
Memorial services will be conducted by Melvin’s family at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13 at the Kingdom Hall-Jehovah’s Witness in Holton, Kan.
