City of Kanopolis Ordinance to Number Buildings

ORDINANCE 2019-O-02

AN ORDINANCE ON BUILDING NUMBERING

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF KANOPOLIS:
Section 1. All buildings in the city of Kanopolis shall be numbered. If more than one building is located on the same tract of land as a numbered building, only one building must be numbered.
Section 2. If a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any building, the city clerk shall decide the question and fix the number of such building. The city clerk shall attempt to keep buildings in numerical order but may use ‘1/2’ designations or out of numerical designations.
Section 3. All occupants and owners of buildings subject to this ordinance are hereby required to number, or cause to be numbered, said buildings within ninety (90) days of publication of this ordinance. Any new buildings subject to this ordinance shall be numbered in compliance with this chapter at the time a building permit is approved for such buildings. The City Clerk shall provide public information and notice to residents concerning the requirements of this chapter as is practical and prudent.
Section 4. Any failure to comply with this ordinance shall be treated as a nuisance, and the procedures for nuisances shall be followed as outlined in the city codebook and existing ordinances.
Section 5. Any building owner failing to comply with this Ordinance may be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor in Kanopolis municipal court and may be fined not less than Fifty dollars ($50.00) or more than one hundred dollars ($100.00). No building owner shall be convicted under this ordinance unless they have been given written notice seven days prior to a hearing at the municipal court and have failed to comply.
