Running for the Scouts

Runners and walkers alike gave during the Ellsworth Scout Spirit Sprint 5K Run/Walk July 1. Proceeds benefit the Ellsworth Boy Scout Troop 84. The results were as follows: Under 12 Male 1st — Tanner Schroeder 35.06. Under 12 Female 1st — Kylie Riggins 39.00, 2nd Addy Bettenbrock 45.54, 3rd — Charlotte Bettenbrock 53.08.

Summer time is tennis time

Ellsworth is known for top tennis teams in the tough 3A-2A-1A division of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, and Bearcat tennis players are hard at work to improve their game over the summer break.

Head Ellsworth tennis coach Eric Anderson has changed the summer program from a paid, four-week camp to an open-court format.

Davis dominates 3A State sprints

WICHITA — Ellsworth’s Kaden Davis dominated the 3A sprint races Friday and Saturday at the 6A-5A-4A-3A-2A-1A State track meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, repeating as the 3A 200-meter champion; winning the title in the 400- meter race and placing second in the 100-meter dash.

Davis garnished a total of 28 team points to place Ellsworth sixth in the 3A team competition. Hugoton won the 3A meet with a total of 62 points.

Ryan wins two second place medals at meet

PLAINVILLE — Lady Oiler Emily Ryan placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5’2” and second in the long jump with a score of 16’1.5” at the soggy 2A Plainville Regional track meet Friday in Plainville.

The start time of the meet was moved to 11 a.m. from the original time of 1 p.m. due to the incoming rain. However, it was still a damp and wet mess.
